Camera Therapy: The Heidelberg Project

The Heidelberg Project is art, energy, and community. It’s an open-air art environment in the heart of an urban community on Detroit’s East Side. Tyree Guyton, founder and artistic director, uses everyday, discarded objects to create a two block area full of color, symbolism, and intrigue. Now in its 27th year, the Heidelberg Project is recognized around the world as a demonstration of the power of creativity to transform lives. The Heidelberg Project offers a forum for ideas, a seed of hope, and a bright vision for the future. It's about taking a stand to save forgotten neighborhoods. It's about helping people think outside the box and it's about offering solutions. It's about healing communities through art - and it's working! We have been one of the creative pillars of Detroit for a number of years. We were founded out of a need to bring the arts alive. We have continued to grow with the help of our donors, patrons, artists and volunteers that make our mission possible.

I visited The Heidelberg Project for the first time today, living in Detroit it's something you always hear about, but you really don't get the full experience unless you actually visit the art based community. It really gave that neighborhood a life, an identity, and I thought it was awesome that a few of the homes in that community were still housing families... Random, but I wonder if the property value increased at all. Anyway, upon arriving I was greeted by an older gentleman, unfortunately, I didn't catch his name, but he was very nice, told me I would be able to take pictures, as long as I kept the residents out of them, so I did, and like always I share them with you. Here are a few that I thought were post worthy, but you really have to check the project out for yourself to grasp what Tyree really did for that area. For more information visit The Heidelberg Project here, also, check out the Get Involved page and see how you can contribute to keep this idea alive.
